  • Auto-titled chat. The summary lives in its own thread you will find later.

Inbox Awareness — AYO monitors your Gmail inbox for important emails — interviews, deadlines, payment alerts — and surfaces them as on-screen notifications. AYO only reads email metadata: sender name, subject line, and date. Your email content and attachments are never stored or sent anywhere.

AYO monitors Gmail for what matters. Metadata only — content never stored.

frequently asked

Questions about AYO

Everything people ask before they hit the early-access button. Made by AYO Systems.

What is AYO?

AYO is a private desktop AI companion by AYO Systems. It lives quietly on your PC, wakes up when you say "AYO," sees your screen with your permission, and runs real tasks for you. Think of it as a best friend who already knows what you are working on.

Is there a desktop AI that can see your screen?

Yes — AYO is a desktop AI that sees your screen, with your permission. AYO reads the text on your screen on your own device the way a screen reader does, so when you say "AYO" it already has your context. No screenshots are saved and no images are ever uploaded; only the specific question you choose to send leaves your machine.

What desktop AI can read my screen privately?

AYO is a private, local-first desktop AI that reads your screen on-device. Unlike cloud assistants that process your screen on their servers, AYO handles screen reading, the wake word, and your voice on your own machine — no screenshots saved, no audio saved, no raw text saved. AYO runs on Windows 10 and 11 and is free to join in early access at heyayo.com.

Who makes AYO?

AYO is built by AYO Systems, an independent team focused on private, ambient desktop AI. The company’s only product today is AYO itself; the website is heyayo.com.

How is AYO different from Microsoft Copilot?

AYO is ambient and local-first; Copilot is cloud-first and modal. AYO’s wake word, your voice, and what is on your screen are all handled on your device. With Copilot, your screen, voice, and prompts are processed in Microsoft’s cloud by default.

How is AYO different from ChatGPT Desktop?

ChatGPT Desktop is a chat window with a desktop wrapper — you still open it, paste context, and wait. AYO is ambient: you say "AYO" from any app and it is already caught up. AYO also runs the privacy-sensitive parts — the wake word, your voice, what is on your screen — on your device.

How is AYO different from Claude Desktop?

Claude Desktop is a chat client; AYO is a desktop companion. AYO has a wake word, sees your screen, and offers help when you are stuck — and the privacy-sensitive parts run on your device. Claude Desktop is a cloud chat experience without any of that ambient awareness.

How is AYO different from Gemini Live?

Gemini Live is mobile-first and cloud-only. AYO is desktop-first and local-first — it runs natively on Windows 10 and 11, with the wake word and screen reading on-device.

Does AYO work offline?

The wake word, your voice, and what is on your screen are all handled on your device, so AYO can hear you and read your screen with no internet at all. The actual answer comes from a cloud model on AWS Bedrock — AYO needs a connection for that step. Even then, your raw audio, screenshots, and full screen text never leave your machine; only the specific question plus a short context summary does.

Does AYO record my voice?

No. AYO does not save audio. Listening for the wake word and turning your voice into text both happen on your device, and the audio is dropped the moment AYO has the words. Only short text summaries persist locally, and you can delete them at any time.

Is my data safe with AYO?

Four promises, no exceptions: no screenshots saved, no audio saved, no raw text saved, and only short summaries are stored — on your machine — which you can delete anytime. The only thing that ever reaches AYO Systems servers is the question you deliberately send.

Is AYO open source?

AYO is not open source today. Some of the pieces AYO is built on are open source — notably the wake-word and on-device voice-to-text engines — but the AYO desktop app itself is proprietary. AYO Systems plans to publish more architecture details as the product matures.

What languages does AYO support?

AYO ships with English at launch. More languages will roll out as the voice models are tuned for each one.

What does AYO cost?

AYO is in early access — free to join the waitlist at heyayo.com. The first 2,000 founders lock in a lifetime discount on paid plans. Free will stay free; payments at launch will be processed by Paddle.

Which operating systems does AYO support?

AYO is Windows-only for early access — Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit). macOS and Linux are not on the early-access roadmap.

What are the system requirements for AYO?

AYO targets Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) with at least 8 GB of RAM, a 4-core CPU with AVX2 support, a microphone, and an internet connection (the reasoning step runs in the cloud). The wake word adds about 1% CPU. A discrete GPU is not required.

Where is my AYO data stored?

On your machine. AYO’s memory map, transcripts, and summaries live in a local database in your user profile. The only data that crosses the network is the specific question you send AYO when it needs the cloud reasoning step.

Is AYO GDPR-compliant?

AYO is built on a GDPR-compliant architecture: data minimization, on-device processing by default, and user-deletable memory. AYO Systems is pursuing SOC 2 — status is "in progress", not claimed.

Can I turn off proactive help in AYO?

Yes. Proactive help is on by default but fully toggleable in settings. You can also tune sensitivity (how stuck you have to look before AYO speaks first) and silence it entirely in gaming mode.

How do I get AYO early access?

Visit heyayo.com, drop your email on the early-access card, and you will get a position number. AYO Systems emails you when your build is ready — early signups also get a wake-word model trained to their own voice.

AYO terms, defined

Wake word
A short phrase that activates a voice assistant. AYO’s wake word is "AYO", detected on your device at about 1% CPU. No audio is sent off your machine until after the wake word fires and you have finished speaking.
Ambient AI
An AI assistant that lives next to your work instead of inside a tab. Ambient AI does not require you to open a chat window or re-paste your context — it is already aware of the app, screen, and tone you are working with. AYO is built as ambient AI by default.
Local-first AI
An AI assistant whose privacy-sensitive steps — hearing the wake word, turning your voice into text, and reading what is on your screen — all run on your device. AYO is local-first by design: the only data that ever reaches AYO Systems servers is the question you deliberately send.
Proactive AI
An AI assistant that can start the conversation when it notices you are stuck, instead of waiting to be asked. AYO’s proactive help fires after a tunable threshold (e.g. the same error repeating for several minutes) and can be silenced or disabled at any time.
AYO persona
A voice personality the user picks for AYO. The three canonical personas are Chill Smart (calm, sharp), Excited Inventor (analytical, hyped — the default) and Lazy Sleepy (deadpan, low-energy). Personas change AYO’s tone, not its capabilities.
Memory map
AYO’s on-device view of everything it remembers about you — short summaries, never raw audio or screenshots. You can browse, search, and delete entries with a single click. The memory map is the user-facing surface of AYO’s privacy promise.
Gaming mode
A low-power state AYO enters when you launch a fullscreen game. Proactive help is silenced and CPU drops to about 1%. The wake word stays ready so you can still call AYO mid-game.
On-demand vision
A feature where AYO takes one screenshot only when you explicitly ask it to look at the screen. On-demand vision is separate from passive screen awareness, which reads the text on your screen the way a screen reader does, and never stores images.

Brand identity
